Guru Nanak Temple Certificate of Filing and Federal EIN:
Guru Nanak Temple was founded by Jasper Johal as a place where non-Sikhs can come and learn about this amazingly modern and egalitarian religion.
Jasper Johal was born into a Sikh family in Central India. He moved to the United States as a teenager and became a professional photographer.
His photographs have appeared on the covers of magazines in the US, UK, Germany, the Netherlands, Russia and Australia. His advertising images have appeared in hundreds of ads, and in dozens of fashion catalogs. His art prints have been exhibited in Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York, and graced the walls of collectors all over the world.
Throughout his career he has proudly shared stories about his Sikh heritage, and his photographs from travels to sacred places in India, with his colleagues and friends. But when asked to share a website where his American and European friends could learn more about Sikhism he has felt that such a website was lacking.
Sure, there are countless sites on Sikhi but they all tend to be preaching to the choir, so to say. That is, they are designed mainly for people who are already familiar with the culture, language and terminology of Sikhs. They can appear fairly dense and overwhelming to non-Sikhs.
Having spent over three decades working as a professional in photography, marketing and communication, Jasper Johal decided it was time to use his years of experience in launching a site that other Sikhs can feel good sending their westerner friends to.
So welcome! Please peruse this site to learn a little more about Sikhi, and bookmark it so you can visit again later as we continue to add more exciting content and photos.
Our goal is to bring the message of Guru Nanak’s deeply compassionate teachings to the world in an entertaining, enjoyable and professional manner.
Our intended audiences are:
Non-Sikhs who are curious about the dynamic, highly prosperous, quietly philanthropic, turban wearing individuals they run into in their business, farming, art and technology fields.
The children and grandchildren of Sikhs who came to the West to establish new lives. Second and third generations immigrants tend to start drifting away from their home cultures. But some of these children are genuinely curious about their heritage and need a place where they can find knowledge offered in a way they can easily comprehend.
Older Sikhs who have spent their lives working hard building lives in the West, but have limited their religious life to visiting a Gurdwara a few times a year, on Gurpurbs and Baisakhi. On this site they can find again the uplifting poetry of Guru Nanak’s teaching.
We have lofty goals and a lot more planned for this site. Sikh culture is known for its preference of action over talk. So instead of crowing about plans, we will continue to quietly build behind the scenes as funds become available.
If you like the quality of what we are building, and you have the means to help, please feel free to reach out to us, and to donate. More than one shoulder behind the plow makes the tilling easier.
